• Safeguarding Pupils & Families

Berwick St Mary’s CE First School is committed to the protection, safety and well-being of all its pupils and families.  Where we believe any child to be suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, the appropriate action will be taken, with the aim of making sure our pupils are kept safe both at home and in school. The school works closely with a range of services such as Children services and the Locality Inclusion Support Teams, to provide a comprehensive approach to safe-guarding.

    We do this by:

    • Ensuring only suitable people work with our children (i.e DBS approved)
    • Promoting safe practice across the school amongst pupils, staff and families.
    • Identifying instances where there are grounds for concern about a child’s welfare and taking appropriate action to keep them safe
    • Working in partnership with other agencies who also provide services to ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people

All staff are regularly trained on safe-guarding procedures, and the school has 2 fully trained Designated Leads for child safety, Mr Hilton (Primary lead) and Miss Murray (Secondary lead). In addition Mrs J Casson the governor responsible for Safe-guarding has also been trained in relation to current Safe-guarding policies and procedures.
